James A. Schaps - Partner

Approachable, friendly and easygoing, Jamie Schaps has another side that has earned him the reputation of being an aggressive and worthy opponent in the courtroom. His skills caught the attention of two judges when Jamie was a prosecutor for the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office many years ago. They promptly forwarded his name to HDBOB where Jamie has focused on the defense of workers’ compensation and automobile liability cases for over 20 years. Jamie has also served as a Mediator/Arbitrator in liability and workers’ compensation matters for over 10 years.

Jamie is a proponent of HDBOB’s open and friendly environment. He says, “Some firms can get hung up on their image as lawyers but that’s not the case at HDBOB. There has never been a client or a lawyer who has ever made the comment that they were ‘uncomfortable’ in our office. While we deal with many serious issues affecting people’s lives, we don’t ever forget that the clients are the most important part of our job.”

Jamie’s skill and candor have earned him the respect of his peers, who have repeatedly honored him with “Super Lawyer” status. He received his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas and J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and U.S. District Court-District of Minnesota. In addition to his litigation practice, he frequently serves as a Mediator or Arbitrator in various insurance/workers’ compensation disputes.

Jamie and his wife, Raquel, have a blended family of 6 kids. Jamie’s been known to play a little golf, which is one of his two long-held passions––the other being waterfowl hunting. “Mr. Fixit” loves his garage and has never seen a power tool he didn’t need. Jamie, Raquel and family enjoy the outdoors, especially any day they can spend at home on the shores of Spider Lake.
